JVM environment makes my system reboot
Aug 4, 2004 1:12 AM

I couldn't find a relevant topic about this problem anywhere on the web, so I was wondering if anyone here using this forum has had similar experience, or could possible know the solution to my Problem...

anyways the problem is that when sometimes I have a java applet running in a browser (IE, or Mozilla ...) and I open up the console to see if any standard output has been written on the console, the entire system suddenly reboots without warning. (it doesn't always happen immediately, sometimes I manage to scroll up and down the console before it happens).

Ive had the same problem using JBuilder 9 / 10 Personal Edition. After a couple of minutes of coding using JB the same happens - a sudden system reboot.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing the problem?

I'm using Win XP SP1, tried different versions of 1.4.x JDKs, 1 Gig RAM, an MSI 400 MHz FSB board and Barton 2,6 GHz CPU.
I dont have this kind of rebooting behaviour on my older computer (a 1,7 GHz Athlon 512 MB RAM) Is maybe the way the JRE manages the Computers memory, thats causing the problem?

i think you pc reboot due to system/window crash when running JVM... This is due to the design of new release of window (from xp onward if i'm not mistaken) which any system crash will result a system reboot... (which they claim that no more "blue screen" in they new release of window)...
There are many reason that may cause your window crash... are you system only crash when running java application or will crash even not running java? .... try to check all the hardware which may cause a system failure... for example, memory.... try to eliminate the possibility 1 by 1... and hope that you can find the problems soon... :)
