(but i don't see much difference (security-wise) in storing a password in a system property or in a file!)

using the batch wrapper approach i suggested would get around this as the evniroment variables would only be visible to that batch file and the things it calls.

My thoughts exactly. I was just wondering if there are any other suggestions. But wrapper batch seems to be the way to go.
