Uml Modeler

Which UML modeler have you used? Liked?

I'm working with Visual Paradigm UML Modeler, and I was wondering any other options might be out there.

Thanks

Paul

Borland's Togther is pretty cool (not because of anything Borland did) but the interface is a little clunky and Borland refuses to admit it's a full IDE. It's also not cheap at all.

Another person and myself looked at a bunch of UML / Java tools and the only one that really integrated coding and the UML in a really clean and easy way.

There are a couple but most of the times free is not the best. If you ask me however I would recommend the community edition of Visual paradigm. Though The tool that's generally considered the Rolls Royce of CASE (Computer Assisted Software Engineering) is Rational Rose.)

I agree with tymer99

Rational Rose if you want the dogs danglies and are willling to pay for it
Poseidon if you want something functional and free

I have used Together for C++ and it comes with nice features (will write code based on the model - great for documentation - update the model and the code automagically updates). Not sure if the Java version has this luverly feature.

Yes the Java does that too. Also, when you update the code, the model changes. In a way, the code is another view of the model. There's no distiction between the code and the model. The model is purely stored in the java files.

Personally, I've had trouble with every Ration product I've used. They always have kludgy GUIs and I didn't care for Rose's code generation.

Both crass and amusing ... Oh boy this is gonna be a day.

Free is a relative term. The free version doesn't do everything one might want, but even if you do buy the standard version it's only $250 US. Cheap any way you slice it.

I've worked with Visual Paradigm - Modeler Edition and I quite like it ($ 99,-). Rational is pretty good too, but if you have to pay for your own tools, I think VP is a pretty good deal.

Do you use the same edition or have you worked with one of the more powerful variants?

When I was working with Rose there were som many times I had to delete everything from a diagram and stat over becasue Rose would screw it up. I'll never forgive Rational.
