I don't find it so. Of course, given what Date represents, it could perhaps be named differently. When I think of a "date" it more closely corresponds to what Calendar actually provides.

Once I get past that though, I find Date's functionality as-is to be useful--though really it's not anything more than a long.

As you know there are different versions of Julian date that people are making use of,

I think the one you explained is the real Julian dates .

But we have a different version here, that is why I have to make use of the existing routines to convert the dates.
