Incredible
Jul 8, 2004 6:57 AM

This thread is amazing:

No slur against my Indian friends, but I think that companies rushing to outsource will find that there's a Gaussian distribution for programmers in every country, including both the USA and India. Bangalore is NOT Lake Woebegon, where all the developers are above average.

The Indian programmers I've known personally belong in that right tail of the curve, that's for sure. But quite a few of the left tail dwellers seem to be frequenting the forum lately. Just an observation.

A guy I work with is Indian and he's very good. However, recently the company I work for were recruiting and I was conducting the technical part of the interview. 99% of the applicants were Indian, 99% of the applicants didn't get the job ...

By the seven arms of Shiva, I swear it, ... ahem ... never mind. Okay, I thought someone out there
could use a laugh today, but it's always even funnier when people take this seriously. If there is
a serious message to it all, it's please post some code. I'm amazed at the number of threads
where the original message is vague and code-free. Time and time again, where I thought I could
help, I've asked the poster to produce a short program demonstrating their problem, and in about
half the cases, they never even respond! These days, I tend to probe to see if the original poster
is serious enough about their problem or if they're just lazy.

I hope I haven't affended anyone, now .... more code ... less talk!

LOL. It wouldn't be nearly as humorous if it wasn't a reasonably accurate satire. Based on presumably genuine posts by others, it's not unreasonable to assume "The Big Vish" is another in the long line from central casting. Those who may be offended are more than likely to resemble the character in question.

I hope I haven't affended anyone, now .... more code ... less talk!

Bah. Troll away! Caveat lector!

Hi All,
This is not fair that u judge whole citizens of a country based on one individual.

I agree that what vishnu has posted is really .... I am searching for words, but u cannot say that whole indians are like that. If u want any facts regarding Indians I am ready to share with u all.

I'm not judging the country based on one individual by any means.

I am saying that EVERY country, including the USA and India, will have a Gaussian distribution of abilities. That means a brilliant few in the right tail, lots of average folks in the middle, and the stragglers in the left tail.

I'm saying that if you read the news in America you'd think that every Indian programmer was a first-rank IIT graduate, and every American programmer was a *****. I'm pointing out that there are poor Indian programmers (some of whom post here) and very smart American programmers (some of whom also post here).

No judging or slurs intended. I'm arguing that no one individual is ever representative of a country.
