Java web start over LAN
Jul 5, 2004 5:47 AM

I can not make JWS get files over our LAN. If I write path to my jar as \\server1\vax\Vacations.jar, JWS does not appear to find it :( The same thing if it is written like file://\\server1\vax\Vacations.jar

Try using the IP of the other computer, or running an HTTP server on it to serve the files. I don't know whether JWS is supposed to work over anything other than HTTP.

Well, then is it possible to run JAR from LAN? If i write java -jar \\storage\vax\Vacations.jar it throws me this to console:
'
storage' is an invalid current directory path. UNC paths are not supported.

That doesn't have to do with anything. It means that the windows command prompt does not support UNC pathnames (the ones that start with '
' that is)

Map a drive to that share and use java -jar H:\vax\Vacations.jar or something like that.
