browser package?
Jun 21, 2004 6:32 AM

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone knew of any cunning way of embedding a web browser into an application that im building using swing? I know it can be done becuase all the decent IDEs generally have one built in!!

The basic premise im going on is having a web-application run from the web but in an environment i can control, (e..g. not from MSIE)!! also having buttons that do application specific things!!

You can see where im going from this!!

So does anyone know if theres a decent API or set of packages around that will do the job... ive seen one called Ice but it needs licensing??

Im a little surprised the standard java libraries didnt include something like this!!

Thanks in advance for any help,

Kind regards,

You can display HTML in JEditorPane for example (JTextPane too possibly, check it out).

But it can't display very complex stuff so if you need other stuff, I suggest you Runtime.exec() a suitable browser (make it customizable btw, I like to use opera while others use Fire<foo>/Mozilla or internet explorer).
